Andriy Shevchenko is getting behind Ukraine’s war effort.
Ukrainian soccer legend Andriy Shevchenko visited soldiers of his country’s 13th Brigade of the National Guard Khartiya in the Kupyansk-Lyman sector on Monday.
He said in a statement: “There is nothing more important than supporting our guys. I admire their courage, endurance, and resilience. From the bottom of my heart, I thank everyone who defends Ukraine!”
In addition to being Ukraine’s all-time highest goal scorer, the former Chelsea and AC Milan star is also now President of the Ukrainian Association of Football and is an ambassador for the UNITED24 charity.
The non-profit has been raising funds to help Ukraine’s war effort since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The Kupyansk-Lyman sector in Ukraine’s East has come under heavy assault from Russian forces since the turn of the year.
