Just about an hour’s drive from Dallas, the endless hum of the metroplex begins to fade, replaced by the slower pace of a welcoming historic Texas city with a spirit entirely its own. Here, where the historic Jefferson Highway cuts through town, Greenville, Texas, is quietly undergoing a brilliant renaissance. Once a powerhouse of the cotton era, this small but rapidly growing community is redefining what it means to be a modern Texas weekend getaway.
A WALKABLE DOWNTOWN EXPERIENCE
Greenville is built for weekends that thrive on downtime. In our downtown, everything is just a stroll away. Start with breakfast at one of our hometown favorites like Luke’s Café for elevated home-cooked selections. Get a caffeine fix at Prairie Coffee, with freshly made pastries, cozy vibes, and locally brewed goodness. Now you’re ready to set off on foot for a day of exploring. If you’re looking for retail therapy, Greenville’s got you covered. Downtown is filled with hidden gems like Uptown Forum, Greenville Boutique, and Lee Street Mercantile. When lunch rolls around, you have multiple options, from Dodi’s Cajun to steak at the newly opened 1846 Restaurant (named for the year that Greenville was established), to Don Toro’s Latin Cuisine, to name a few.
When it’s time to find a quiet spot to sit, unwind, and enjoy a relaxing glass of wine, try one of our great wineries, Landon Winery (with their award-winning wines) or Live Happy Lane Winery (with their gorgeous décor and serene outdoor settings). Both host great events, so you will want to check their websites for upcoming activities. If you like craft beer, The Ashen Rose is the place for you.
MORE TO EXPLORE
Expanding beyond downtown, there are great places to explore like the Vintage & Lace Marketplace, with its fusion of old and new, along with several places to thrift around town. For family fun, you will want to stop in at Shenaniganz. To take in a movie and more, try our newly opened Gamescape entertainment complex.
History buffs will not want to miss the Audie Murphy American Cotton Museum, which honors WWII’s most decorated soldier and celebrates Greenville’s cotton heritage. The museum also hosts year-round events like Frontier Day, Murder Mystery at the Museum, and the After Dark Easter Egg Hunt for big kids.
Our beloved, historic Greenville Municipal Auditorium hosts numerous concerts, shows, and theatrical performances throughout the year. Go to GMALive.org to see the schedule and to order tickets.
