For 50 years, Love For Kids, Inc. has been dedicated to supporting low-income families with children in need, believing that a strong community begins with nurturing its youngest members.
Founded in 1975 by Bill Barrett, a compassionate local businessman, and Alan Powdermaker, CEO of Circle R Ranch, Love For Kids was born out of a simple yet profound desire to make a difference. From humble beginnings, the pair set out to host a Christmas party for 200 at-risk children, and over the years, it has blossomed into a comprehensive organization serving thousands of families annually.
The flagship event of Love For Kids is its Children’s Annual Holiday Party, which is hosted every year where it all began: Circle R Ranch. The event brings out more than 1,500 at-risk children and treats them to a day filled with joy, laughter, ranch-style activities, horseback riding, a petting zoo, hay rides, a visit with Santa, and so much more. All the kids go home with a gender and age-appropriate toy, and a coat from our partner of 49 years, Dallas Children’s Charities.
In the spring, the organization hosts a special event called All Kids Count for over 450 children with disabilities and their families, offering a variety of fun activities and educational areas. In 2023, they developed a new division called We Are 1 Community Food Blessing, which takes place on the second Saturday of each month. These food distributions take place in Dallas, Denton, and Collin counties, providing much-needed food to families in food deserts and impoverished areas. Every month, the event provides food to over 5,000 food-insecure people.
Another heartwarming program offered by Love For Kids is Happy Heart Heroes. This initiative brings joy to children in need by sending volunteer cosplayers dressed as beloved superheroes and Disney princesses to visit and uplift their spirits. These magical encounters do more than entertain—they bring comfort, spark imagination, and make each child feel seen, valued, and special.
By collaborating with community members, charitable partners, private donors, medical professionals, and educators, Love For Kids amplifies its impact, ensuring that every child receives the care, resources, and opportunities they deserve. Through innovative programs and dedicated volunteers, the organization fosters awareness and social responsibility, empowering all ages to give back and uplift future generations.
