Manolo Blahnik has released a colouring-in project to help encourage mindfulness amid the coronavirus crisis. They have invited fans to share their designs on Instagram using the #ManoloBlahnikSmiles hashtag.
In response to many people around the world practicing social distancing and staying at home during the Covid-19 pandemic, the Spanish footwear designer has teamed up with officials at the U.K. Mental Health Foundation on a new initiative called Smile, The Art of Colouring in order to help lift spirits.
“Creative freedom is a form of escapism, something we need now more than ever,” the 77-year-old commented.
“I have used my creativity not only to entertain my own imagination but also in the hope that I bring happiness to others and make them smile! This time, I ask the world to do the same – let us all spread joy, share creativity and inspire one another.”
Blahnik’s team has posted a range of the designer’s original sketches and stripped them back to the outlines on his website. They are inviting fans to download copies, colour them in, and then share them on Instagram using the #ManoloBlahnikSmiles hashtag.
Among the outlines available are versions of Blahnik’s Margolina slingbacks from spring/summer 2013, the sculptural Odalisca sandals from spring/summer 2012, and the Henley brogues from fall 2018.
“The initiative is made in support of our partnership with the Mental Health Foundation which has provided an incredible resource for looking after mental health with management tips, working methods, acts of kindness and more,” a representative for the brand added.
Like Manolo Blahnik, designer Kenneth Cole has also recently launched a mental health project, teaming up with model Kendall Jenner to launch the Kenneth Cole Mental Health Coalition.
