America is a maritime nation, and strong sea services are the driving force of a maritime nation. Sea service personnel make sacrifices for us, and they deserve our support. The New York Council Navy League is a member-driven military support organization that supports heroes from all the sea services—Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and U.S.-flag Merchant Marine.

The New York Council was the first council established more than 120 years ago, in 1902, and is now one of the largest and most active of the Navy League councils, with nearly 750 members. Our members come from throughout the greater New York City area and include veterans, reserve and active-duty personnel, and civilians from all walks of life who support them. Prior service is not a requirement to join.

Our events and programs serve approximately 10,000 service members and more than 1,500 local youth annually. From large-scale events such as the USS Cooperstown Commissioning Celebration and Fleet Week New York to smaller gatherings like our National Security Briefings, to honoring top enlisted individuals at our adopted units, our members support those who serve all year. Each year, this celebration of service ends with an Anniversary Dinner where we raise crucial funds for the following year’s programming.

Our 121st Anniversary Dinner on November 16 at The Plaza Hotel is spotlighting our 2023 honorees:

  • Tom Higgins, Head of General Services at Fiserv, Inc., will receive our Leadership in Support of the Military Award.
  • Medal of Honor Recipient and retired Army Colonel. Jack Jacobs will receive the J. Robert Lunney Patriot’s Award.

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet and dine with special guests from the federal and city governments, all branches of the sea services, our evening’s Master of Ceremonies Gary Jobson, and our corporate sponsors, which include The Tom & Cindy Secunda Family Foundation, HII, Morgan Stanley, Fiserv and Milio Management.

Funds raised from the 121st Anniversary Dinner will go toward new and developing programs that educate the public and elected leaders on the importance of the sea services, foster youth leadership development and, most importantly, support sea service heroes, their families and their units. Our work is member-driven, as is our funding, so we encourage everyone to visit our website, attend an event, consider donating, and become a member.
