An hour north of Manhattan, nestled between the Hudson River and the Connecticut State line, is the wonderful gem in the Hudson Valley, Putnam County. Putnam is a small but mighty treasure trove of crystal lakes, beautiful hiking trails, historic sites, art and cultural experiences, and quaint restaurants and shops. You do not have to stay cooped up inside all winter long. With five Metro-North stops, it’s an easy getaway and a hassle-free day trip.

BEAUTIFUL SCENIC VIEWS AND OUTDOOR ADVENTURES

From the East Branch Reservoir all the way to the majestic Hudson River, Putnam has some exquisite locations to catch a variety of bass, trout, or sunfish. Don’t let the snow stop you; ice fishing is a great activity to enjoy.*

Situated in the heart of the Hudson Valley is Fahnestock Winter Park. This beautiful winter park is nestled within the 16,000 acres of Clarence Fahnestock Memorial State Park. Fahnestock Winter Park offers visitors cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and sledding/tubing within over 12 miles of machine-groomed ski trails and an extensive network of blazed snowshoe trails that are suitable for all ages.

ART AND CULTURE

Magazzino Italian Art—the only Italian art museum in the United States dedicated to post-war contemporary Italian art is an absolute delight.

Walking through the galleries, you’ll find bold installations, thought-provoking sculptures, and paintings that make you stop and stare. The building itself is stunning, with natural light pouring in. While you’re there, stop by Café Silvia for a snack or coffee to keep your energy up. And don’t miss out on the cutest little surprise during your visit, the Sardinian donkeys at the back of the museum.

Magazzino offers a shuttle service to patrons who travel to Cold Spring via the Metro-North.

THRILLS ON THE SLOPES

A fresh blanket of snow will have the mountains calling you, and you will not have to travel far. Located in the rolling hills of Patterson, New York, Thunder Ridge Ski Area is an hour north of NYC! With 22 trails, three chairlifts, and four magic carpets, Thunder Ridge has slow and gentle slopes to meet the needs of the newest skiers and snowboarders, and advanced trails for the daring and adventurous! Thunder Ridge offers a shuttle service on weekends to those traveling on the Metro North. You can buy/rent proper ski and snowboarding gear at Thunder Ridge or at Ski Haus.
