Cancer remains the leading cause of death in Canada, and this year alone an estimated 254,100 Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer¹. Approximately two in five Canadians will face a cancer diagnosis during their lifetime².
As the Women in Insurance Cancer Crusade (WICC) marks its 30th anniversary during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we recognize the millions of Canadians whose lives have been touched by breast cancer while reaffirming WICC’s year-round commitment to supporting the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) across all cancers through research, advocacy, and support services.
THREE DECADES OF INDUSTRY-WIDE IMPACT
For three decades, WICC has united Canada’s insurance community around one simple belief: together, we can make a meaningful difference.
Since 1996, WICC has grown from a grassroots initiative into one of Canada’s most impactful industry-led charitable organizations. Today, insurers, brokers, MGAs, service providers, and industry partners from coast to coast come together to support the CCS, enabling world-class research, compassionate support services, and advocacy work.
WICC is proof that when insurers, brokers, MGAs, and industry partners set competition aside to unite behind a shared purpose, extraordinary things can happen. Together, our industry has shown that collaboration can achieve more than any one organization alone.
“For three decades, WICC has demonstrated the power of an industry united by purpose. Through the commitment of its volunteers, the generosity of its sponsors, and the passion of its supporters, WICC has helped fuel life-changing cancer research while ensuring people facing cancer can access support when they need it most. Beyond the funds raised, this partnership has helped foster an enduring culture of philanthropy, leadership, and collective action across the insurance sector—one that continues to make a lasting difference for people across Canada. We are deeply grateful for WICC’s steadfast dedication and look forward to what we will achieve together in the years to come.”
—Jane Parsons, Chief Development and Engagement Officer, CCS.
MORE THAN $23.5 MILLION RAISED
Together, WICC has raised more than $23.5 million nationally for the CCS, including more than $12.8 million through WICC Ontario³, helping fund groundbreaking research, patient support programs, and advocacy efforts that continue to change lives.
Behind every event, sponsorship, and dollar raised is a volunteer whose passion has made this impact possible. Our 30-year legacy belongs to the thousands of volunteers who have given their time, talents, and hearts to advancing our mission.
30 STORIES FOR 30 YEARS
To celebrate this milestone, WICC is partnering with Canadian Underwriter to launch 30 Stories for 30 Years, beginning with an exclusive interview featuring WICC Ontario funding beneficiary Dr. Stanley Liu and a cancer patient, exploring research, early detection, and the hope made possible through community support.
As we celebrate our 30th anniversary, we honour the founders who imagined what WICC could become, the volunteers who brought that vision to life, and the generations of insurance professionals who have united behind a cause greater than themselves. Their compassion, leadership, and commitment have created a legacy that continues to bring hope to Canadians every day.

THE WORK CONTINUES
Thirty years is an incredible milestone, but our work is far from over. Every breakthrough begins with research. Every patient deserves support. Every family deserves hope.
