Tucked along the calm, sandy shoreline of Tofino’s tinwis Beach, Tin Wis Resort offers the kind of stay that invites guests to slow down and settle into the natural rhythm of the coast. With direct beach access, oceanfront rooms, and a welcoming atmosphere, it is a place where comfort and connection come together naturally. Whether the visit is for a weekend escape, a family holiday, or a longer West Coast stay, Tin Wis is designed to feel relaxed, restorative, and closely connected to its surroundings.
That feeling is part of what makes the resort so memorable. Time at Tin Wis is shaped by the setting itself, whether that means a quiet morning overlooking the water, a walk along the beach, an afternoon spent surfing or paddling, or simply the chance to step away from the pace of everyday life. Even dining feels grounded, with the beach, the ocean, and the wider landscape always close at hand.
Located on the traditional territory of the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation and proudly owned and operated by the Nation, Tin Wis Resort offers more than a place to stay. It offers a meaningful connection to land, culture, and community, shaped by a strong sense of purpose and place. The name itself carries meaning, reflecting not only the character of the beach itself, but also the sense of peace that many guests experience during their time there.
That connection to place took on even greater significance in 2025, when the traditional name tin wis (meaning calm waters) was restored to the beach after many years of it being known by the colonial name Mackenzie Beach. The return of the name was an important milestone for the Tla-o-qui-aht community and part of a broader movement to reclaim traditional place names throughout the territory. More than a symbolic change, it reflects an ongoing commitment to language, identity, and cultural continuity while offering visitors a deeper understanding of the place they are experiencing.
COMFORTABLE, OCEANFRONT STAYS
Tin Wis combines strong cultural grounding with a guest experience that is welcoming, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed. The resort features 85 rooms—each one offering a direct ocean view. Private balconies or patios create space to take in the scenery, whether that means watching the changing light on the water or listening to the sound of the waves.
A range of room types makes it easy for different travellers to find the right fit. Guests can choose from standard king and double queen rooms, deluxe rooms, kitchenette suites, loft suites, and executive suites with full kitchens, fireplaces, and separate living spaces. In-room features such as complimentary Wi-Fi, mini fridges, microwaves, and coffee makers add convenience, while select accommodations are especially well-suited to extended stays.
Each morning begins with a complimentary hot breakfast, and 24/7 guest services help ensure a smooth stay from arrival to departure. Tin Wis is also family-friendly, with pet-friendly options available. Whether for a home-away-from-home feeling or a short-term escape, the experience is designed to be both comfortable and welcoming.
The experience is further complemented by Brown’s Socialhouse, located directly on the property. Open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, it offers a casual dining atmosphere that feels relaxed and inviting. Guests can gather over a meal, enjoy Social Hour, or take advantage of the convenience of dining on site after a day spent on the beach or exploring Tofino. Tin Wis also offers fitness amenities, along with the largest conference centre on the Pacific Rim, allowing it to welcome both leisure travellers and larger gatherings in an exceptional coastal setting.
ROOTED IN COMMUNITY
What makes Tin Wis Resort especially distinctive, however, is that its purpose extends beyond hospitality. As an Indigenous-owned and operated business, it places community at the heart of its operations, and that commitment shapes the experience in meaningful ways.
Through the Tin Wis 10 in 10 vision, the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation is working toward a goal of growing its share of the Tofino tourism economy to 10 per cent over the next 10 years. Rooted in economic self-determination, the initiative is focused on creating long-term opportunities for Tla-o-qui-aht members through employment, mentorship, leadership development, and entrepreneurship.
That vision is also shaping the future of the resort itself. Tin Wis is being imagined not only as a successful oceanfront destination, but also as a learning campus and community-centred space where people can build skills, gain experience, and explore new pathways in tourism, business, and leadership. In that way, the resort reflects a broader understanding of what tourism can do when it is rooted in community values and designed to create opportunity for future generations.
A STRONGER SENSE OF PLACE
That purpose is becoming increasingly visible across the property. Art, carvings, and totems, for example, are being incorporated into the space as part of a broader effort to bring language, culture, and identity more fully into the guest experience. These elements reflect the living culture of the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation.
Through monthly blogs and listicles published on the resort’s website, Tin Wis shares stories written by Erin Linn McMullan in collaboration with knowledge keepers, Tribal Parks Guardians, carvers, artists, and community leaders. These pieces offer guests the opportunity to learn more about the people, values, and histories connected to the area, while also helping amplify Tla-o-qui-aht voices in an authentic and respectful way.
Tin Wis also encourages respectful travel through its connection to the Tla-o-qui-aht Tribal Parks. Guided by the principle of “ʔiisaak,” meaning respect, guests are invited to engage with the land thoughtfully and to better understand the importance of stewardship, reciprocity, and care. The resort has also been recognized as an Authentic Indigenous Tourism experience and holds Original Original accreditation, reflecting its commitment to Indigenous ownership, cultural integrity, and excellence in hospitality.
MORE THAN A PLACE TO STAY
Tin Wis Resort offers many of the qualities travellers are looking for in Tofino, including ocean views, direct beach access, comfortable accommodations, and a setting that encourages rest and reconnection. What sets it apart is the deeper sense of purpose that shapes the experience from beginning to end.
Guests are not only staying on a beautiful stretch of coastline. They are spending time in a place that reflects community pride, cultural resurgence, and a long-term vision for the future. That is what makes Tin Wis feel like more than a getaway. It is a place where visitors are invited to relax, to learn, and to experience the coast in a way that is both welcoming and meaningful.
