Taylor Swift has been crowned Time magazine’s Person of the Year.

The Shake It Off singer beat finalists including King Charles III, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Hollywood strikers and Barbie to become the magazine’s Person of the Year.

Explaining their decision, Sam Jacobs, the magazine’s Editor in Chief, said on Today on Wednesday, “Picking one person who represents the eight billion people on the planet is no easy task. We picked a choice that represents joy. Someone who’s bringing light to the world. She was like weather, she was everywhere.”

In a rare interview with Time, the music superstar shared, “This is the proudest and happiest I’ve ever felt, and the most creatively fulfilled and free I’ve ever been.”

Time awards the Person of the Year title to “the individual, group, or concept that has had the most influence on the world throughout the previous 12 months”.

Taylor, 33, has had a stellar year, with her highly popular Eras Tour reportedly propelling her to billionaire status. She also released the fastest-selling record of 2023, the re-recording of her 2014 album 1989, and was crowned Spotify’s most-streamed global artist of the year last week.

She was previously part of the 2017 Person of the Year collective, The Silence Breakers, a group of people who spoke out against sexual abuse and harassment, thanks to her trial against former radio DJ David Mueller.

The pop star follows in the footsteps of previous Time of the Year honourees including Barack Obama, Greta Thunberg, Donald Trump, and Elon Musk.

Where Hope Blooms: Shania Twain’s Childhood Promise

Photo: Wembley Concert © Frédéric Thiébaud By Raye Mocioiu Long before she became a global superstar, Shania Twain was a child who knew what it meant to go hungry. She remembers arriving at school without breakfast. She remembers the uncertainty of not knowing where the next meal would come from. Most of all, she remembers how hunger affects far more than an empty stomach. In between days of going to school hungry and days where hunger would drive her to skip school altogether, she made a vow that if she made it someday, she would make sure to find a way to give back to kids like her so they would have access to the support that she so desperately needed as a child. “I remember what it was like to grow up hungry—it made my school years so difficult,”

After the Earthquake: Recovery Is Just Beginning in Venezuela, and CORE is on the Ground

But when the headlines fade, recovery is still just beginning. The core of recovery is not measured in days, but in months and years. It’s a process of clearing roads, rebuilding homes, restoring livelihoods, and helping communities regain a sense of normalcy. In the days following Venezuela’s devastating earthquakes, thousands of families found themselves sleeping in temporary shelters, surrounded by uncertainty. Homes had collapsed, schools were damaged, and streets were buried beneath mountains of concrete and twisted metal. For many, returning home wasn’t simply a matter of opening the front door—it wasn’t yet safe to do so. Founded by Sean Penn and Ann

How Shaq’s Father Inspired the NBA Legend’s Business and Philanthropy Empire

Photo: Basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal says his father taught him to give people help when they’re in need—and he’s lived by that lesson throughout his three-decade career. © Mitchell Layton/Fortune/Reuters Connect Shaq’s Father Once Gave His White Castle Burgers to a Homeless Vet—and It Inspired the NBA Legend’s Business and Philanthropy Empire One small interaction or passing conversation can stick with entrepreneurs throughout their entire careers. For NBA legend Shaquille “Shaq” O’Neal, that lesson came from his father—and he’s lived by it throughout his journey spanning sports, business, and philanthropy.  “My father was a drill sergeant, but he always told me to honor people. Treat people with kindness. Treat people that are less fortunate,” O’Neal recently said during the Milken Institute’s conference. “Make sure you can give them things, especially things that you don’t need.”  One moment in particular solidified

Each child had three construction-paper apples next to their name, one green, one yellow and one red. If a student misbehaved, the teacher would have the little offender walk up and remove one. Mallory Achterbosch, 29 years later, still remembers tears stinging her eyes and her face burning red. And she still remembers being confused about why she was being punished. After nap time ended, why were all the other kids
